Little things

Aren’t they nice?  As mentioned in the comments section of the previous post, the late afternoon light is really hitting a section of my gardens at work quite well.  Should be a lot of photo opportunities to be had in the upcoming days.

Here’s a little selection of images to whet your appetite….

Dragonfly on a perch

Hard at work

Tiger stripes

stretchin' out

What amazed me the most was the light, and as it changed what it would do to the objects that were in/out of the light.   All of these images were shot within yards of each other as the light was hitting different areas and they are all pretty much straight out of the camera.  If I did anything other than crop, it was hit the “I’m feeling lucky” option in Picasa.

More to come as summer continues to heat up in Texas!

(Edited to add that I shot these all with my 50D, and my little 18-200mm 3.5/f  lens)

  1. Seriously WOW Derrick. These are all fantastic! The large dragonflies are soooo difficult to capture (I’ve tried). LOVE the transparency of the wings. Nice swallowtail captures as well. LOVE the dtraight on shot – don’t see that too often. Bravo!

  2. Derrick, this series is beautiful. I like the closest closeups.

  3. Thank YOU, both! I will plan better next time and whip out the 70-200 macro and see what that does. 🙂

  4. Speechless. Stunning.

  5. Thanks! There was good light and I was able to grab the camera. 😉

  6. Mate if I had gardens like these at work I would either get nothing done or fired form my job. Mate have you got yourself a dedicated macro lens?
The 3 image of the series has the best composition well done cheers Adrian

  7. Thanks Adrian! I have a 70-200 2.8/f macro, but the lens on the camera that day was just a plain jane 18-200 3.5/f….
