Heading south out of the Big Bend Ranch State Park on Bofecillos Rd – quite scenic in its own right – after what seems like an eternity you finally arrive back to paved road.

Paved road, however, does not mean your adventure has ended.  Quite the contrary.  Turn left on State Highway 170 and you’ll soon be on a veritable roller coaster of a road, and one of the most scenic drives you’ll ever take in your life.  Word to the wise, however – make sure you have a full tank of gas and emergency food/water.  There’s no cell phone, no gas, no food, nothing for quite some time.  While it’s very likely you’ll get ‘rescued’ in case of a car problem by another traveler before too long – it’s a long way from anywhere and its best to be prepared.

Somewhere between Redford and Terlingua, you’ll find this little building.  Big Bend Ranch State Park is on one side and the Rio Grande and Mexico on the other.  While completely lacking in amenities – it had (and has) one helluva view.

One Response to “170”

  1. Sorry about that sloppy spacing between the images, can’t make it go away!
