The Mariscal Mine

Finally, after several hours along Big Bend’s river road, the Mariscal Mine began to take shape on the horizon.

squares and curves

At first, what draws your eyes to the mine are the straight lines – after hours of viewing nature’s curves, the walls of the mine stand out from quite some distance.

As you get closer to the mine, what starts to stand out is the colors in the hills below and above the mine, and how the immense size of the structure is

disguised by its closeness to the large hill it sits on.

As soon as you step out of your vehicle, signs of a past life are everywhere.  All you have to do is look around.

Coming up, you’ll get the opportunity to join me on a walk around this wonderful historical structure.
