I was able to participate in the weekly post challenge this week again – as this week’s theme is “tiny”.

Sugar Magnolia

Magnolia trees are one of the great perks about living in the south.  Their fragrant blooms are simply magical, and mean that it won’t be cold again for awhile.

Proving once again the value of Derrick’s rule #1 of photography – always have your camera with you – I was fortunate to grab this image when I did.  Later on in the afternoon, when the light was actually better on the tree, these petals had burned up in the afternoon sun and were crispy and brown.

  1. As a southerner myself, I LOVE Magnolia trees and their beautiful, fragrant blossoms. Living where we do now, I am able to enjoy them, however we will be relocating back north this summer. I will miss the Magnolias.

    Lovely photo.

  2. How lovely!

  3. Very cool shot, Mr. B!
For some reason I found this weeks challenge a bit more… ‘challenging’ than most, but you’ve sure got a wonderful entry there, sir! 🙂

  4. I love the scent of magnolias. This is beautiful, Derrick. 🙂

  5. Very interesting Derrick, to shoot the (older) flowers with the stamens collected in them. They look like bowls of tiny (ahem, yes) matchsticks!

  6. Wonderful!! This shot is beautiful.
