Hands on

I’ve always believed you can tell a lot about a man by looking at his hands.  Are they soft and well manicured or scarred up and tough from use….  Goes right along with how a man shakes your hand.  Is it very firm and strong or weak and soft?

I’ll give you a gold star if you can guess how this fella shakes hands – even at the young age of 81.

I was fortunate to catch the  light just “so” on this shot while the blacksmith was hard at work bending metal to his will.

  1. Oh, I’d say he has a very firm handshake.

    Great capture, Derrick. 🙂

  2. I looked at a large version of this photo and it’s stunning. And the prose that goes with it is wonderfully simple.

  3. Oh, yes, definitely a firm handshake from a man who has worked his whole life honestly. Wondeful, Derrick! I very much like the human element here.

    • Thanks Mizz Tracy!
This particular ‘smith has lived in the Alaska backcountry, building and living in his own log cabin. Pretty impressive fellow, if you ask me!

  4. Is his handshake the kind that is uncomfortably bone crushing? Just a guess. In my opinion, this image ought to go in your book. It is very strong.

    • Thanks David. For an 80 something year old man… it’s pretty stout. 😉 Beats the weeny, dead fish handshake of the vast majority of men I run into around the metroplex.
