The sound of…. silence

After a long drive to Big Bend, we arrived on site at our designated back country campsite and set up camp in the dark.  Unfortunately, it’s something I’ve done more than once and while it’s never much fun, we got it all sorted out promptly.

After a fairly restless night of sleep – tired a little, excited a lot, and unable to get comfortable on the ground, I was up early enough to find my camera gear, put on all my moto clothes, warm and load up the bike and head down the road a bit to what’s becoming a favorite location to shoot the sunrise at Big Bend.

daybreak

As often seems to be the case, the colors of the sunrise were like a lifesavers’ roll of candy, going from dark to light to dark again as the sky ran away from the sun.  It was extremely quiet at first, but as more and more light spread over the desert, all at once a cacophony of sounds erupted as it seemed every bird in the world started chirping and signing.  Truly glorious morning and it made up rather nicely for an extremely cold motorcycle ride to get to this spot.

  2. What a wonderful way to start the day!
I love sunrises (and sunsets) and am extremely fortunate that at this time of the year I can watch them from the warmth of my living room! Of course, where I live, it will be many many months before motorcycles leave the garage!
