Shiloh
The Civil War battle at Shiloh was the first where the butcher’s bill began to sink in. Over a two-day period there were over 23,000 casualties and it was the bloodiest battle in American history up to that time. During the course of the war, there would be bigger battles with more bloodshed – but Shiloh was the first.
The battlefield itself is a powerful place and well worth the effort to get there and I think it’s fitting that the upcoming tour of the battlefield will start with its cemetery.
Apologies to those folks who I visit frequently – it’s been a long two weeks on the road and internet connectivity was scarce to not available at all. I’ll be working hard to catch up with you over the next week.
This battlefield series you’ve been doing is incredibly powerful, Mr. B…
I’ve really, really been enjoying it.
