Those pesky rules

IF you’ve ever taken a photography course, one of the rules you might have learned about is the rule of thirds, which says, in a nutshell, that you should not put your horizon dead in the middle of your image because it is more appealing to your eye to use the rule of thirds rather than the rule of halves… (is that even a rule?)

That all being said, however, a lot of photography is yes, knowing the rules but also in knowing when it’s OK to break the rules. In the case of this image, the reflection would look odd or out of whack if I applied the rule of thirds…. So I didn’t.

Long story short – don’t be so confined by “the rules” that it gets in the way of you making a good image!ca
