Ft. Davis final views
One of the great things about visiting the fort is that you can get some of your hiking legs under you if you haven’t been out in the field in a while. There are some great hiking trails that take you up the ridge behind the fort and they offer you some spectacular views of the fort and the surrounding environs.

In the above image, you can see where the first builders of the fort messed up on where they put the original buildings. Soon thereafter, they discovered the error of their ways and straightened things out – but you can still make out the original foundations.

Following army doctrine, the hospital can be found behind the other structures.

Hiking back down to the fort’s parade ground, there are plenty of other opportunities to stop and enjoy the sites.
