Reflections at Isle du Bois
After getting set up at Isle de Bois State Park, it was time to wait for the sunset’s golden colors. There was still plenty to photograph. I’m one of those folks who takes a picture whenever the mood hits me, not just the two hours at either end of the day.
Wonderful texture. Love it.

One of my favorite times of day at the beach is low tide because you really get to see all the ripples in the sand. I think it harkens back to when I was a child and would spend a few weeks every summer at the lake. My favorite time them were the quiet mornings when everything was waking up and the sun would glisten on the water, revealing the ripples in the sand in the shallows below. Sometimes, I’d spot a pumpkinseed fish tending to its nest. Was a glorious time.
Thanks for a lovely photo which made me think of those wonderful childhood mornings once again. I am smiling. 🙂

Well done, Derrick. The ripples’ wonderful lines leading to the tree stump really make this composition.

Many thanks Sharon. This was a lucky, off the cuff shot. I was shooting off my tripod left of this scene. Decided to slightly move to another location and happened to look just as the wind picked up a bit and made the ripples. Luckily, I had the camera in my hands as I didn’t want to dump the tripod/camera in the mud. Brought the 7D up, snapped the shot and in an instant, the wind died and the scene changed completely. 😉

Very nice Derrick. That’s quite a change of pace from your recent work in the dry country.

Thanks, PJ! I just love playing with the reflections in still water; just harder to find that in Big Bend or Canyon country. 😉

It’s great that you do photograph at all times of the day. I like this one better than the sunset in the following post, which is also a fine photograph.

Thanks David – I do think there’s something to be said for the golden hour’s wonderful light – and there are millions of great photos out there proving it.
But if that’s all you shoot, you’re missing out on some potentially great stuff the rest of the day. (and night!)
